The Future Home of.......

This domain has been sitting here for quite some time and I have received many emails asking when I am going to be bringing things online (and many offers to buy the domain).....I felt that I should express my feelings and such behind my purchase of the domain these many years back as well as what I plan for the domain.....

The first thing I must say is that callahans.com is NOT for sale for any amount of money!  I purchased this domain (and have been renewing it religiously) back in May of 1996.  My reasoning for this purchase and other thoughts are revealed below (call it a bit of history I reckon).

Many years ago (before the advent of this thing we call the World Wide Web) I ran a National BBS (us old timers know what this is but for those who do not you can call it the predecessor to what is known now as the WWW).  This BBS was called "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon" and it turned into a gathering place for folks from all over the world.  It was a BBS that was never advertised and folks just came across it by chance (sound familiar? - chuckle).  This BBS ran for over 10 years and then it was taken down (for many different reasons).

I have been involved with the Internet itself in many ways since the late 70's and, like many predicted, I agreed that it was going to replace BBSs and most other forms of communication that we have all accepted for many decades.  When I decided to start doing WWW and Internet work exclusively, the first thing I did was check on the availability of callahans.com and purchased it when I found it was available.  I had ideas and such in my head that I could, when all of my work and such that put food on the table and paid the rent and other bills, slowed down then I could work on rebuilding what the BBS was for many years in this new format.  As you can see, my paying work has never really slowed down enough to allow me to build the place that I have envisioned inside my head for so long.  It would seem that now, after so many years, things are finally slowing down enough with my regular work and I am going to be allowed to entertain working on my many different ideas and projects that have been rumbling around in my head for so many years.

In the time since I purchased the domain (and even before) there have been many places that have come online that are based on Callahan's (most notably the Usenet Group) and its philosophy.  It tickles me to death that so many folks out there have done this and that what Spider put into his writing has spread all over the world in many different ways.  In saying that I must stress that in building this place I am not looking to replace or usurp anything else that is out there (and hopefully I can use this Site to direct many more folks to things that are Callahan's).  I am going to take all the ideas and such within my head and put them into play here and  try to provide folks another place where they can come to relax and enjoy themselves.

Now that I have rambled on some with all this boring stuff I need to close this writing.  In closing I would like to note that over the next few months I hope to finally start building what I envisioned so many years ago.
